Oh my goodness you guys. How is 2016 already over?? Ever since July of 2015 (when we got engaged and chose our wedding date) I feel like I’ve been DYING for 2016 to get here. And just like that, it’s over in the blink of an eye. So many big things happened for us in 2016, that I’m honestly a little bit sad that it’s coming to an end. Every year, I get a little bit nervous to leave the year behind us and jump into a new year filled with uncertainties, unknowns and new challenges. But I have a feeling that somehow, 2017 is going to be our best year yet.
On a side note… today is a super special day for me and my hubby! SIX years ago today (how has it been that long?!) we went on our very first date. Little did we know way back then, it would be our very last first date ever. Kind of crazy to think about! We went out with our friends to ring in 2011. And even though he got us kicked out of the bar (long story!) we’ve been inseparable since that night. So cheers to six years of laughs, adventures and love, Babe. I’m so happy I get to do life with you!
Thank you for joining me for half of 2016! I’m so happy that you’re here, and that we’re going to be ringing in 2017 together. I hope that 2017 brings you 12 months of success, 52 weeks of laughter, 365 days of good luck, 8760 hours of fun, 525600 minutes of joy, 31536000 seconds of love and 1 whole year of happiness.
Here is a quick recap of my 2016!
We rang in 2016 with family and friends.
Trev and I started out 2016 the way I wish every year could begin… traveling! We headed to San Antonio, Texas for a week. I loved San Antonio! You can check out everything I love about San Antonio here, here, here and here!
Wedding planning was in full swing, and we got to head to our venue for a Tasting Weekend.
February didn’t start out the best for us. We lost someone we loved very much (my great grandma) to cancer. She was fierce and feisty and loved bar cheese more than anyone on the planet. We miss her every day, but we all felt her absence a little bit more this time of year.
On a happier note, we sent out our wedding invitations and we were so excited!! Sending out the invites made it all start to feel real. We were counting down the days until The Big Day!
I also started my first long term sub job at the end of the month. This meant I had to move home, which stunk because I really missed Trev, but was also totally awesome because I got to spend a lot of time with my family, and be here for all our last minute wedding planning.
Not a whole lot happened in March. It was a super busy time of year for us work wise, and we went 3 weeks without seeing each other. While the first half of March kind of stunk, the second half was awesome.
My awesome aunts on my mom’s side threw me a surprise bridal shower! It was one of the greatest surprises ever!
April blessed us with beautiful springtime weather and of course… more wedding stuff!
We made the local newspaper!
I was blessed with another amazing bridal shower, this time by Trev’s mom and sister in law.
And, since I was living Up North, I got to enjoy all the beauty of Northern Michigan.
In may, we celebrated the Veterans with Tight Lines for Troops. If you’ve never heard of this, and live in Northern Michigan, you should really consider being a part of it next year! It’s a really amazing event and they can always use volunteers.
We had our super awesome Couple’s Shower with my dad’s side of the family. My aunts absolutely killed it in the “shower planning” department!
And… we applied for our marriage license!
June was the best month of 2016… hands down.
Savannah Said It officially became a thing!
We celebrated Trev’s 28th birthday.
Andddd we did this little thing called GETTING MARRIED! Our wedding day was perfect. 6.17.16 is a day that we will never, ever forget!
And a few days after that, we left for our honeymoon! We had the most amazing adventures in Banff, Canada! You can easily find all my posts about Banff here, here, here, here, here, here and finally, here. (And if you haven’t seen them, get to clicking. Because Banff is freakin’ magical and you HAVE to go there someday!)
We came home from Canada just in time to celebrate one of our favorite holidays, The Fourth of July. (Brews, Fireworks and BBQs make our hearts happy!)
We spent a lot of July campaigning for my Uncle who was running for sheriff. (Spoiler Alert… He won!)
And we relaxed a WHOLE LOT. After being so busy the first part of the year, it was nice to kick back and do a whole lot of nothing. (And by nothing I mean eating ice cream!)
August brought the end of summer and we were so dang sad. It had been the best summer of our lives and we weren’t ready for it to be over. So, we did everything we could to make the very best of it.
We had cookouts and bonfires every weekend. (And a shrimp boil!)
We celebrated Trev’s Grandma’s 90th Birthday.
And we caught as many summer sunsets and we possibly could.
In September, we both went “back to school” and our lives became crazy busy again! We started out September with a trip to Hell, Michigan.
We celebrated my cousin’s wedding!
And I turned 27!
October came and we were thrilled because that meant fall was finally here! We love everything about fall from colorful leaves to donuts. Speaking of…
We ate our weight in donuts and cider.
We went to pumpkin patches and on color tours.
And we got to go to Cincinnati for our friend’s wedding!
November was a month of change for us.
We settled in to our new apartment.
We took our annual trip to Frankenmuth.
And we celebrated Thanksgiving with our families and friends.
And in my brain, December is one giant mush of Christmassy fun. From Holiday date nights to DIYs. Watching Christmas movies and sending out our very first Christmas card, it’s hard not to look back at the entire month of December without feeling super jolly.
And tonight, we are officially ending 2016 with a big New Year’s Eve party. (There really isn’t any other way, is there?) Have a safe and wonderful New Year friends! I’ll see you in 2017!!
