Happy happy Monday friends! I hope that the time change hasn’t messed you up nearly as much as it did me. I’m walking around like an absolute ZOMBIE today. I don’t know how I’m going to make it through the Bachelor Finale tonight! (Even though I already know who wins because I’m a HUGE Reality Steve Fan!) All I know, is that it’s not Corinne and I’m really happy about that because now that means we can PROBABLY see her on Paradise and after that, I really want ABC Family (or Fox Family or Freeform or whatever the heck it is now) to give her her own show, like they did Ben and Lauren and The Twins. Because Corinne is the greatest Bachelor contestant ever.
Who knows what this Friday is? Yup. St. Patty’s Day! Now, if you’re in college, like beer, of Irish heritage, or just down for a good time, this holiday is for you! And while many celebrations started last weekend, believe me when I tell you, the best is yet to come!
I’ve rounded up some of the best St. Patty’s Day celebrations around the state. Where will you drink till you’re Irish this weekend?
Irish on Ionia, Grand Rapids. This is BY FAR the funnest way to celebrate St. Patty’s day. I went every year (once I turned 21) while I lived in GR and it was seriously the best time. Taking up a city block in the middle of Downtown Grand Rapids, you’ll find Irish on Ionia. Starting at 7 am, you’ll be able to eat Kegs and Eggs, enjoy green beer, and listen to great live music. And don’t miss the Shamrock, Paper, Scissors tournament! (You’re speaking with the runner up 2 years running y’all.) You’re bound to feel the Luck of the Irish at this amazing celebration! 22nd Annual Official Unofficial St. Patricks Day Pub Walk, Traverse City. Ugh. I need a Green Beer after typing that name. Dress in green, bring party favors, and join this long standing Traverse City tradition. This event is absolutely free, and isn’t sponsored by anyway. (See why it’s Unofficial?) Join hundreds of your closest friends starting at 1:00 pm at Minerva’s (in the Park Place Hotel). You’ll change bars every hour, and be treated to traditional Irish music while walking from one pub to the next by members of Grand Traverse Pipes & Drums. More information here.
The 63rd Annual Bay City St. Patrick’s Day Parade, Bay City. 63rd Annual? Any parade that’s been around for 63 years is good in my book! Floats, bands, queens and leprechauns. It’s no wonder over 10,000 people show up every year to enjoy this parade. More information here.
Carnival Weekend, Boyne Mountain. How does combining St. Patty’s Day and Mardi Gras sound? Like the best time ever right? Join in the fun while spending a weekend skiing Up North. You can find Ski and Stay packages here that will allow you to make the most of your time on the mountain. While there are lots of events going on that weekend, the two you shouldn’t miss? The On Hill Party on Saturday and the Slush Cup Sunday before you check out. Find more information, and a full schedule of events, here.
Celts and Kayaks, Crystal Mountain. Let’s stay on the “ski” train a bit longer. Looking for a totally unique, adrenaline rush this St. Patty’s Day weekend? Crystal Mountain is calling your name. There are fun events going on all weekend, that the whole family will love. Think Slush Cup, BBQs, and celtic dancing. But the main event? The Kayak on the Snow race. If you’re at least 8 years old, you can participate. (All equipment is provided.) Find the official rules here. For more information, and a full schedule of events, click here.
The Old Shillelagh, Detroit. Is there any Detroit bar more Irish than The Old Shillelagh? I don’t think so. Doors open at 7am on St. Patty’s Day. ‘Nuff said. Check out this awesome bar here.
Chasing the Luck of the Irish. Not into this drinking holiday? Celebrate with a 5K! You’ll find an entire list of fun 5K runs around Michigan this St. Patty’s weekend! For race information, click here.
How are you celebrating this weekend? Whatever you do, be sure to wear green. You don’t want to get pinched 🙂
I’m back tomorrow with a wrap up post on The Smoky Mountains, and a clue to our next destination. Where do you think Savannah Said It is heading next?
Have a wonderful Monday everyone!
