What to Wear for your Engagement Photos

Happy Happy Wednesday my friends! I’m going to start today out with just a little bit of “housekeeping”. I have LOVED writing down my advice on planning your wedding this past year. It gave me a fun way to keep my memories of my big day alive. But, it’s just about time that Wedding Wednesdays be put to rest on Savannah Said It. Don’t worry, all of the original posts will still be here for you use, but at the end of the year, I’ll be laying new Wedding Wednesday posts to rest.

All you Wedding Wednesday loves, don’t worry… I still have a FEW things I feel like we need to talk about before I’ve completely thrown all my advice in your faces. 🙂 So you won’t see the very last Wedding Wednesday post until November. That being said, let’s move on to today’s post!

With fall leaves JUST around the corner, I know many Bride to Be’s are planning their Engagement Photos. So how do you decide what to wear? Because let’s be honest, you’re going to be planning you and your Boo’s outfits too!

When choosing your outfits, Do This… Not That.

DO wear something you feel comfortable in, NOT something you’ve never worn before. Wearing something completely uncomfortable and not you will show ALL over your face. So make sure you are comfortable. If you like jeans, where them! Feel your best in stilettos? Pack em. If you feel happy and confident in your outfit, the chances of your pictures turning out exactly like you want are 1,000 times greater! And whatever you do, don’t wear something brand spankin’ new. You might not like how it looks in photos and then you’ll be SO UPSET when you find out way too late.

DO choose neutrals with pops of color, NOT multiple wild colors and prints. The general rule of thumb is the more colors you wear, the harder it might be to make you look cohesive with each other and your location. Choose neutral colors with pops of your favorite colors instead of multiple different colors and prints mixed together.

DO make sure your outfits compliment each other, NOT matchy/matchy or look like you’re going to completely different locations. You’ll just look silly if one of you is dressed for Summer and the other for Fall. Choose outfits that look like you would wear them to the same place, in colors that compliment each each other. Again, it just helps to make your photo look more cohesive. And whatever you do… matching from head to toe isn’t cute. It’s overdone. Just don’t do it.

DO play off the location, do NOT show up without knowing where your photos will be taken. Your outfits should compliment the location of your photos. While you may not know the exact spots your photographer will take you, you should have a general idea of them, or of the vibe you’re wanting for your pictures. A super fancy dress and stilettos just won’t look write if your sitting on a hay bale in the middle of a farm. Talk to your photographer before you choose your outfits. They’ll be more than happy to help you. After all, they want to make sure you’re happy with your photos.

DO consider the season, do NOT dress for the wrong one. Normally, I’d say “You do you, Boo Boo”, but I promise, you’ll hate your photos if you look awkward and out of place. Consider the season, and the colors that compliment it best. Getting pictures in the winter? Bold colors like Red and Royal Blue look gorgeous against the snow. The Fall practically screams to wear purples, greens and golds. And summer? You know whites are always in.

A few extra tips? Make sure your foundation is “flash friendly” (you don’t want to look like Casper), you pack the correct underwear and bra for each of your outfit changes, and you have a hair brush and bobby pins with you, just in case!

Also, try on your outfits and take pictures with your iPhone first. This way, you’ll know how they look on camera. Because sometimes no matter how great you look in person, it just doesn’t come off right through the camera lens!

I’m off to work… but I wish I was snuggling up with a cup of coffee and watching movies all day instead 🙂  I hope you all have a wonderful Wednesday!

Xx.
