OMG. You guys. Did you see The Bachelor last night?! I just can’t with Krystal. I’m literally so glad she’s on! We also totally saw a glimpse of Arie on a couch and hearing sobbing and I feel like that’s probably all about this spoiler and OMG I feel like a terrible person being so excited at someone else’s heartbreak but I think this really MIGHGT be the most dramatic finale in Bachelor history and I’m so pumped! Chris Harrison has been promising drama for years and I legit can’t wait.
But you’re not here to Bach Cap… you’re here to talk Travel! Today, I’m sharing another installment in my Capturing Your Travels series. This Tuesday, it’s all about how to share your trip on Social Media. (Or Sosh Meed, as my super dorky husband likes to say!)
Now, I know most people say “You should be living in the moment… don’t be on your phones all the time.” Which is true… to an extent. Let’s be real. You’ve got followers and they want to know what you’re up to. They wouldn’t be following you if they didn’t.
Now, is there such a thing as over sharing? Of course. But, not if your using your Social Media the right way!
Using Instagram, SnapChat, Facebook and Twitter is the perfect way to allow your friends, family and even strangers see your amazing adventures. It gives you the opportunity to take them along with you, and helps tell your story without making them sit in front of a slide show that lasts for 3 hours.
So today, I’m sharing 5 Tips for Sharing Your Travels on Social Media!
Tip #1: Don’t Overshare.
I like to live by this rule in my daily life as well… 2 Posts, 1 Day, Not Okay. On a platform like Instagram, one photo a day is more than enough, especially since you can now add more than one photo to a single post. No one that’s following you wants their phone blowing up that you’ve posted another photo for the 50th time that day. Wait until the end of the day, and share your very favorite photo that you took. There are 365 days in a year, you’ll have plenty of time to post another photo from that day later on. That’s what #TravelTuesday and #ThrowbackThursday were made for.
Tip #2: Don’t Over Edit.
This kind of goes along with this post on editing your photos. Wherever you are is probably pretty awesome. And sometimes, a filter just ruins it. Keep your editing simple and let your photos speak for themselves.
Tip #3: Use Stories or Snapchat to take your followers along.
Doing something really cool? Take your followers along for the day on Instagram stories or Snapchat. The best part about this is that you can’t annoy anyone with “oversharing” because if they don’t want to watch it, they don’t have to. I constantly am checking the Stories of my favorite travel bloggers, following along on their adventures with them. If I can’t be there myself, at least I can live vicariously through them!
Tip #4: Tag Your Places and Use Hashtags.
Did you know 55% of people like social media pages of places they are planning trips to? Tagging your location when posting helps others find your pictures. Not only is it more likes for you, but it’s also really helpful for those of us searching for must see places on our next vacation. Hashtags also help people find your pictures. Remember… Hashtags = Likes in the Social Media world. However, a giant paragraph of hashtags can be crazy annoying. So space them down to AFTER your caption so people don’t have to read them all!
Tip #5: Remember to Live in the Moment too.
This is the most important tip I could give you! Don’t forget to put the phone away, and enjoy the moment too. While it’s always great to capture moments for your followers, it’s more important to capture perfect memories for yourself.
So take a few tips from your favorite travel ‘grammers and get to showing your followers the world through your eyes. Because chances are… they’re waiting to travel along with you!
Do you like to share your travel photos while you’re on vacation? Or do you like to keep to yourself?
