10 Most Instagram Worthy Spots in Washington DC

Hi Guys! I’m super excited to be back today with another “10 Most Instagram Worthy Spots” post! It feels like it’s been FOREVER since I’ve sat down to write one of these for you, thanks to all my posts dedicated to Memorial Day Weekend. Today, I’m taking you out of nature (what 95% of these posts are) and into the city! We’ve done MichiganJackson HoleYellowstoneThe Smoky Mountains and San Antonio so far. Today, we’re getting Patriotic up in here.

Washington DC made it’s first appearance on Savannah Said It in March of last year. Of all the cities I’ve been to, DC is one of my favorites. Why? Because I’m a HUGE history nerd. And DC’s streets run so deep with history, that you can literally find it on every corner.

And while this city is known for it’s politics and much more “serious” vibe, there is no shortage of picture perfect photo ops! Since I visited, they’ve added even more gorgeous spots throughout the city that will make your feeds pop (Like painted murals and buildings) but today… I’m sharing the classics.

So, without further ado, here are my…

10 Most Instagram Worthy Spots in Washington DC

The Lincoln Memorial. If you know me, you know that Honest Abe is one of my favorite presidents. (Him and JFK. They have always absolutely fascinated me.) So of course, the Lincoln Memorial is going to be my Number One! But… not just because of the larger than life Abe Lincoln. It’s my Number One because of the history that is deeply embedded there. Anchoring the west end of the National Mall, this architectural beauty seems to just belong there. Like it always has, and always will be meant be exactly where it is, no matter how drastically the skyline changes around it. (In fact, I personally believe L’Enfant would have been THRILLED the second this bad boy was built.) The memorial boasts a 19 foot Abe Lincoln, who permanently keeps a watch over the city. It is also the place that so many historical moments call “home.” None more famous however, than that moment on August 28th, 1963, when Martin Luther King Jr. gave his “I Have A Dream” speech on the steps in front of 250,000 people. This fact, gave me chills. As I stood on the steps, looking out over the reflecting pool and grassy lawn stretching all the way to The Capitol, I couldn’t help but imagine the power of his speech, and that moment in time. To call the Lincoln Memorial iconic is an understatement. And an Iconic Spot ALWAYS makes for an Iconic Insta. (Am I right, or am I right?)

The White House. Because don’t you want to go see where the epic love story of Duncan and Hallie began?! Or you know, where every president has slept and the most important decisions for our country are made. Whatever is more important. 😏 (PS… did you know you can watch My Date With The Presidents here? You’re welcome.)

The Smithsonian. Pick a museum and snap a photo. Whether you’re posing with a Wright Brother’s plane, Dorothy’s Slippers or Abe Lincoln’s hat, you’ll have a ‘gram worthy of the history books.

The Washington Monument. One of the most recognizable spots in DC is the perfect backdrop for any selfie. Standing 555 feet tall, it’s the tallest freestanding stone structure in the world, making it one of the most recognizable. I mean, did you even go to DC if you didn’t take a picture (or 32) with The Washington Monument?!

Georgetown. Got a cute outfit you want some pics of? Take em in Georgetown. Think multi-colored row houses that line its streets, cobblestone sidewalks, quaint cafes and the Chesapeake & Ohio Canal running by. Oh. And cupcakes. They have cupcakes.

Ben’s Chili Bowl. Ever seen a celebrity eating a chili dog in DC? No question, it was at Ben’s. It’s been a DC staple since it opened in 1958. The outside it bright and colorful and the inside hasn’t changed since the 50s, making it plenty intagrammable on its own. But it’s the world famous mural that features distinguished African Americans (like the Obamas and Harriet Tubman) that makes the building so iconic. So grab a photo inside and outside!

Union Station. A shot of a DC Metro station is the norm from any tourist in town. But the best Instagrams come from Union Station. Union Station is one of the country’s very first union railroad terminals. And it’s still in tact, perfectly restored classic architecture will make anyone’s jaw drop… and your Instagram photos pop.

*Not my photo. Stole this one from Union Station’s website! It’s late and I gave up looking for my DC pics.

Eastern Market. I read online that the locals say this is the place to go in DC. And the second I arrived I could see why. This place is the coolest; from the outdoor vintage finds to the delicious treats and flowers indoors. A stop at Eastern Market is a must on your trip to DC… and it’s the perfect place to snap a #weekendvibes photo!

The National Mall. And last, but not least, is America’s back yard. The National Mall is home to the Smithsonian Museums, monuments, memorials, and The US Capitol. So basically it’s a prime photo op for all things iconically DC.

Okay, so this is technically Capitol Hill but whateves.

Oh… and The National Zoo gets honorable mention in my book. Why? Because Pandas. They have pandas.
