Hi Guys! I’m SOOO excited about today’s post! If you’ve been with me for awhile, you’ll know that Wednesdays used to be all about Wedding Planning! I shared every tip, trick and piece of advice I learned along the way planning my own big day. And I loved every second of it! However, I knew I couldn’t spend my entire life talking about one day that happened two (!!!) years ago already. So I decided to move on from Wedding Wednesdays and bring you something new. However, every once in awhile, an awesome brand reaches out to me with a fun post that I just can’t resist!
So buckle up brides, it’s time for another Wedding
Raise your hand if you’re planning your own wedding. Now raise your drink if you’re weeks away and still feel like “something” is missing. This was a feeling I could.not.shake. I would seriously go to bed just trying to figure out what was missing from my wedding that was going to make it not quite perfect.
After many sleepless nights, I finally realized what was missing. Character. I had planned everything from the music to the cake, the food to the decor. But what all good weddings have is character. And the good news? Whether it’s a decor piece, something fun for the guests, or someone to help it all go smoothly, adding a little extra “something” is the absolute easiest thing you can add at the very last minute. (Even days before!)
Here are 5 Last Minute Touches for Your Big Day that will fill that missing piece!
Join in on Cocktail Hour. One of the easiest ways to bring a little extra something to your wedding is a cocktail hour. I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again. Yes… your guests are there because they love you, but they’re also there for the open bar. So start it early, and start it right with yummy snacks (we served sandwich sliders) that will tide them over until dinner. And the best way to up your cocktail hour game? By joining in on the fun! Cocktail hours usually serve as the “holding spot” for guests while you’re out getting photos taken. But if you have a first look (I’m a firm believer in these. Find out why here.) you can totally join in on the fun. Plus, it’s a great time to visit with all the guests, so you can enjoy the rest of your reception later.
A Fun Competition… With A Yummy Prize. Give your guests something to do… and let them duke it out for a worthy prize. We had a “closest to the tee” competition, where everyone on top of the hill got to hit a golf ball before they headed down the chairlift to our cocktail hour. The winner won a giant basket of goodies from our favorite local store, Cherry Republic! Everyone really loved doing it, and really wanted the prize.
Get yourself a “Day of Coordinator”. I think I’ve said this a zillion times, but I’m going to say it again. You can plan your own wedding, but you can’t make it happen without a Day of Coordinator. Seriously. A Day of Coordinator takes care of everything for you. Their only job is to make sure your day goes perfectly, and that you never know about anything that’s going wrong behind the scenes. My Day of Coordinator is to this day one of my favorite people on this planet. She made sure everything was how I wanted it, and she took care of every single thing that needed to be done. She literally even went and got my Father in Law a different pair of shoes when the sole of his brand new dress shoe fell off minutes before the wedding. While some venues (like mine) came with one, most brides have to choose and hire their own. If you haven’t left room in your budget to hire someone for your day, find the money, or a trusted family member or friend (that isn’t in your wedding party) to take care of the day for you. They will take ALL the stress off you, and you’ll enjoy your day. I promise, it’s the best decision you’ll ever make.
Add some signs. Do you feel like your decor is lacking? Lucky for you, signage is still “in” when it comes to your big day, and you can find free printables literally all over Pinterest. Grab some frames (I found all my pretty vintage frames I used for family photos at garage sales, but if you don’t have that kind of time, check out a Dollar Store) spray paint them a color to match your wedding and BOOM. Instant decor that doesn’t look last minute. (This works great with photos too!0
Put Together A Photo Booth. And this my friends, is the easiest way to bring something special to your big day! I know just hearing the words “diy-ing a photobooth” can put some brides into a panic. But I promise you, it’s SO DANG SIMPLE. And your guests will truly love it.
Example… the DIY Photo Booth at my cousins wedding was PERFECT for drunk selfies! Hahahaha
