Hi Friends! Long time, no talk! I’m sorry I’ve been a bit MIA lately, without any warning. We’ve had a very tough week.
Last Wednesday morning, Trevor’s Papa passed away peacefully with the love of his life by his side. Everything happened in such a whirlwind that as I’m sitting here looking back I can’t believe it’s been only 5 days since his passing, and only a little more than a week since they stopped his treatments all together.
Last October, Trev’s Papa was diagnosed with Merkel Cell Carcinoma, a very rare, deadly form of Skin Cancer. They told us that this disease would kill him eventually, but were very optimistic that the treatments he would be receiving would prolong his life immensely. Two weekends ago (when we rushed to Grayling because he was in the hospital) we had high hopes it truly was just dehydration causing him to not be able to walk. Then, last Wednesday he had his next appointment with his oncologist. They read his most recent PET scan and we got the heartbreaking news that the cancer had spread everywhere. They decided to stop treatments, because they would make his quality of life worse, causing him to get sicker. His prognosis was two weeks, to two months. He only lived a week.
We were so thankful for the past few weekends we got to spend with Papa, and all the extra time we got with him this past year. But man, is it hard to lose someone you love so much. Thank you for all your thoughts and prayers, I promise you we’ve felt them through this incredibly difficult time for us. We miss him so much already. But are at peace knowing he’s up there fishing with his sweet pup Gidget and looking down on all of us smiling.
We spent this past weekend in Grayling, celebrating Papa’s life and being with family. I don’t have a lot of pictures or fun stories to share. Just this one, celebrating Papa after his funeral in the best way we knew how… with a can of Busch. (His favorite beer.)
Oh. And because I really don’t want to end on a sad note. I have a little bit of good news… Jacksy Cat came home! We’ve been missing him terribly and we’re so glad to have our little furball back from his “vacation” at my parents house.
I think as much as he would hate to admit it, he’s happy to be home too. I’m going to do my best to get back into the swing of blogging this week! I usually like to have my posts half pre-written on the weekends to help make getting them up on time easier on busy days. So if I miss a post or two the rest of this week, I’m sorry! I’m emotionally drained and feel like I need to sleep for 14 days straight. But I’m doing my best to get back into my routines!
Fingers crossed I’ll be back tomorrow with a Poconos post for you all!
