Hi Friends! Happy, happy Monday! Last year, I did a Spring Cleaning Series on my blog, and I know that you all loved it! So, I thought I’d bring it back this year, and share some new tips and tricks for deep cleaning your home.
I never dreamed when I planned this series, that it would be going up in a time where cleaning and disinfecting your home is one of the most important things you could possibly be doing to help keep COVID-19 away from you and those you love most.
In light of the state of the world, I decided to switch up my posts, and begin by sharing how I Clean AND Disinfect My Home!
Did you know that when you clean, you’re not always disinfecting? A clean home and a disinfected home are actually two different things… but it’s really easy to do both!
Here are 5 things I’m doing this Spring to keep my home sparkly, clean and coronavirus free this Spring!
Dropping Germs At The Door. The first step to a clean, germ free home is dropping the germs at the door. For me, still working during this scary time, I’m very worried about carrying germs into my home that I’ve picked up from others at work. So, to help leave the germs outside, I’ve been taking my shoes off at the door and leaving them in the garage. If you have Lysol spray, you can spray yourself down the second you walk in, but I wasn’t lucky enough to get a coveted can! So instead, I’m changing immediately and putting my clothes directly in the washing machine (so the germs aren’t festering in the dirty laundry bin) and wiping down my bag with an antibacterial wipe.
Using Chemical Based Products to Clean/Disinfect. I love, love, love using natural products in my home. 95% of the time I clean with Mrs. Meyer’s products, cleaning vinegar and hot water. However, with a virus like this, I’m not taking any chances. I’ve pulled out my favorite Clorox and Lysol products to help me disinfect.
And actually following the directions. Did you know that most cleaning products actually don’t disinfect unless you leave them on for a certain amount of time? Me neither. (I learned this on YouTube the other day.) I’m making a conscious effort to follow the directions and let the products do what they are supposed to!
Wiping Down Touch Points Daily. One thing that I’ve been diligent about this past week is wiping down the major touch points in our home. Light switches, door knobs, remotes, our phones and computers are things that we don’t think to clean often… but that we touch ALL THE TIME. It’s super simple to grab a Clorox wipe and wipe these touch points down. It takes less than two minutes to do our entire house, and it helps stop the spread of germs.
Using HOT Water! We don’t normally wash our clothes in hot water… cold water saves us some money! But for now, we want to kill all those nasty germs, so we’re washing in hot water! We’ve also switched our dishwasher cycle to use the Sanitize and Heated Dry options. We’d just rather be safe than sorry!
