Hey there my beautiful blog family! I’ve missed you! It feels like FOREVER since I last sat down to write (really it’s only be a couple days!) and I’m happy to be back.
I hope you all had super nice bosses that let you have Friday AND Monday off, and you’re all feeling refreshed, well rested, stupidly happy and slightly sunburnt. (All the signs of a perfect 4th of July weekend!)
I know that this morning, I was! However, I was also absolutely DRAGGING. Getting back into the swing of real life, after such a perfect weekend away is always SO hard for me!
If you know anything about me, you know that I love Fourth of July. It’s my second favorite holiday. I mean… any holiday that calls for parades, fireworks, bbqs, beach days and beer has my name written all over it! Plus, there is just something extra great about celebrating America because let’s be real… we’re pretty dang lucky to live in the Land of the Free. This year, Fourth of July looked SO different, but that didn’t mean we didn’t have a great weekend Up North for the Fourth!
Our weekend began on Thursday as soon as I got out of work. Trev and Jacksy Cat we waiting for me to get out of work to head Up North! We were pretty shocked to hit ZERO holiday traffic. We left later than most people, so it worked out in our favor! As soon as we made it to town we headed to bed… we were exhausted and ready for a good night’s sleep!
On Friday we slept in and enjoyed coffee on the deck! It was going to be a super hot day, but one of the best things about living so close to Lake Michigan is perfect summer mornings. (There is always a nice cool breeze!)
Then we headed to our favorite place, TJ’s Pub for lunch!
After lunch, it was time to meet up with Trev’s parents who came to town for the weekend. They were staying about a half hour out of town, inside Manistee National Forest. We headed out to their cabin to say hi, and decided to take a little trip to Tippy Dam.
After we left the dam, we headed back into town to meet my parents for dinner! We grabbed a table on the deck at Big Al’s and DEVOURED our subs and stroms!
When we finished eating we headed to the beach. While all the events were canceled in town, the Jaycee’s still put on a socially distanced, sunset concert at the beach! We listened to great music and saw the prettiest sunset!
It was honestly one of the prettiest sunsets I’ve seen in awhile! Talk about a perfect July evening.
Saturday we headed to the beach as soon as we woke up! Trev and I staked out a spot bright and early and had our breakfast on the beach before our parents headed down to spend the day with us. We laid in the sun, swam in Lake Michigan and read our books. It was the perfect summer day!
It was super weird not going to my favorite Fourth of July events, but this was a really great way to spend our day!
Saturday evening we headed to North Channel Brewing before going back to the beach for the sunset.
The city might have canceled the fireworks, but that didn’t stop my small town from celebrating! While we were watching the sunset, two guys pulled up in a black truck and the back end was literally FILLED with fireworks. They put on such a great show over the lake! They made everyone on that beach smile so hard… I can’t thank them enough for that!
Oh. And I did sparklers.
Sunday we woke up and I REFUSED to believe it was time to come back to reality. So we hit the beach for a quick pier walk and TJs Pub for lunch to make leaving a little bit easier.
Then we packed up our car, said our Goodbyes and headed home.
And now… it’s Monday and we’re back to our normal routines. And by normal routines I mean I’m home from work, we’ve eaten dinner and now we’re re-watching The Office for the 324th time 🙂
How were your Fourth of July weekends?! Were they super different than normal? I hope that no matter what, you still found some time to smile, relax and enjoy time with those you love most!
Alright my loves, I’m signing off for the night. I’ll be back tomorrow!
