How To Make Your Virtual Friendsgiving Sweeter with Hudsonville Ice Cream

Oh Thanksgiving. One of my absolute favorite times of year. It’s a time for gathering with loved ones, expressing our gratefulness anddddd eating our weight in turkey. Yum. And while all of these things will still happen for me this year (not even covid will come between me and 12 servings of my Grandpa’s stuffing) the way we celebrate will actually look a whole lot different… just like everything in 2020, am I right?

Most states, including mine, are tightening their regulations for both indoor and outdoor gatherings as we start to see daily coronavirus cases rise again. And while we will still get to celebrate Thanksgiving with our parents, we won’t get to celebrate with our extended family and friends, at least not in a traditional sense.

For a holiday that is all about traditions, this year, it’s time to break ‘em. We’re going virtual for our Friendsgiving and I’ve got everything you need to have a perfect (and not awkward) time over Zoom with your friends this November.

This Thanksgiving, I’m teaming up with my friends at Hudsonville Ice Cream to bring a few tips to make your virtual Friendsgiving sweeter this year. So, let’s get to it!

How To Make Your Virtual Friendsgiving Sweeter

Pick Your Platform. Before you can start planning your dinner, you have to choose the platform you want to use! This is honestly a personal preference. Choose whatever you think will be easiest for you and your friends. Zoom, Skype, Facetime, Google Hangouts, Facebook Rooms your options are endless!

Send Virtual Invites. Is it slightly extra to send virtual invites to your friends just to remind them of a scheduled Zoom time? Yes. But does it make it feel slightly more festive? Also yes. Fill them out with all the information your friends need and email them over. Include your preferred platform, what they’ll need to eat (we’ll talk more about that next) and anything else that your guests might need to have on hand to make your virtual Friendsgiving fun. (I love this one that’s free from Evite!)

Decide on Dinner… or skip to dessert. Do you really want to make an entire turkey dinner to eat by yourself? Me neither. Skip the traditional Thanksgiving meal this Friendsgiving and go straight for the desserts. Might I suggest ice cream? Hudsonville Ice Cream has an ice cream for everyone. Are your friends dairy free? They have SEVEN Dairy Free flavors to choose from. One of your girls a little extra, like me? Hudsonville’s Extra Indulgent flavors have their name written all over it. Some of your friends coupled up? Their 48 oz flavors are perfect for sharing. What I like most about suggesting ice cream as your treat of choice for Friendsgiving is that it’s something everyone likes, and it’s something that is easy to get. So while you’re miles apart, you can still feel like you’re eating together. You and your friends can use Hudsonville’s Scoop Locator to find their ice cream nearest you, OR you could be the best friend ever and order ice cream to be delivered for your friends online! Also, did I mention just how versatile ice cream is for any Thanksgiving dinner? It’s perfect to add on to any Thanksgiving dessert… because every dessert tastes better with ice cream. My favorite is Creamery Blend Vanilla on apple pie/ apple crumble (not a big fan of pumpkin over here)!

This is Trev’s favorite Hudsonville flavor! It’s so yummy!

Decorate! It’s not a party without decorations. Just because you’re alone at your house doesn’t mean that you can’t get in the Thanksgiving spirit! Add some festive fall decor to your background before logging on at party time!

Plan a Party Game. It’s not Friendsgiving without a party game or two. From drinking games to card games and everything in between, there are hundreds of games you can play virtually. Take a minute on google and you will find hundreds of articles with Zoom friendly games! My personal favorite is the website allbad.cards… it’s basically Cards Against Humanity in virtual form!

Have a few conversation starters in the back of your mind. I know anytime I’ve ever been on a call with a lot of people, there tends to be awkward silences after a while. I’m not exactly sure why, but I feel like conversations aren’t quite as easy to keep going when you aren’t physically in the same room. Think of Netflix shows to share, talk about the hobbies you picked up during quarantine or just the fact that 2020 has been quite the year. This way, when it gets quiet, you always have something to say!

Take photos! Friendsgiving didn’t happen if you don’t post about it on Instagram. Have fun changing your background and snapping photos on your platform. Or, splurge and get a virtual photo booth for the day that all your party guests can access. No matter what photos you shoot, it will certainly be a Friendsgiving you will never forget!

Count your blessings. Don’t forget to make a toast to remind yourselves to be grateful that even if you can’t be in the same room, you can still spend an evening together.

How are you planning to celebrate Thanksgiving/Friendsgiving this year? Will you be together in person or staying safe at a distance? Either way, don’t forget to pick up Hudsonville Ice Cream to make all your Thanksgiving desserts sweeter! You can click here to find fun fall recipes on their blog, or here or here for a few I’ve created with them!

And to make Thanks-GIVING (see what I did there?) a little bit easier, my friends at Hudsonville came through with a $3 off coupon for any two flavors of your choice! Run, don’t walk to Meijer! (Like I mentioned above, click here to use the Scoop Locator to find it at a grocery store near you!)  Can’t find it anywhere close to you? Hudsonville Ice Cream recently launched an online store so you can buy your favorite flavors right from your couch! Not only can you buy their delicious ice cream, you can buy my ice cream scoop or the apparel you saw Trev and I rocking all summer long!

Now, if you’ll excuse me, I’ve got some Friendsgiving invitations to send out. I hope you all enjoy this absolutely GORGEOUS November Sunday! (It’s legit going to be 70 degrees here today.) I can’t wait to get outside and enjoy the day! I’ll be back tomorrow my loves… talk to you then!

Xx.
